Another popular spot on the amazing Fraser Island is Lake Wabby. Located in the Great Sandy National Park, on the eastern side of the island, it’s a small freshwater lake. It’s close to the ocean and has a little inland desert. Just like the Sahara desert but with a lake, how idyllic and cool is that? Lake Wabby is a greenish coloured lake, known as both a window lake and a barrage lake. With a maximum depth of 12 meters, it’s the deepest lake Fraser Island has to offer. Fun fact: the amazing thing about Lake Wabby is that its natural deep green water is bordered by a giant sand dune that is slowly moving into the lake. In a century those sand dunes will march across Fraser Island so eventually Lake Wabby will disappear under the sand.
